Yea!!! We survived the tough part Now - Conway Park Road Construction Delays are nearly over!
The major IDOT and Tollway Projects which will ultimately improve the flow of traffic into and out of Conway Park and other businesses on the Route 60 Corridor are nearly complete!! The foresight, planning and cooperative efforts of the business community, City of Lake Forest, IDOT and the Illinois Toll Authority have helped ease the inconvenience to commuters.
The Temporary Access Road to access the northbound Tollway had a tremendous impact on the situation, and was a very significant benefit, diverting 1600 cars per day from the congested Field Drive and Route 60 intersection, during peak construction activities over the last 17 months. To this day, the access road is still being utilized by over 1200 cars per day. We expect that this number will continue to decline as employees of the Park become familiar with the improved ease of egress from the Park at Field Drive, under the new roadway configuration. The temporary access road is slated to be closed for daily use at the end of July 2009. Conversations between the Tollway and COLF continue in regard to options to maintain it as a potential “emergency” egress.
In the near future, additional roadway improvements will be seen that will enhance the commute for our employees as well. None of these will have the congestion impact that we saw with the Route 60/Bridge/Field Drive Project. They are:
Compromise and collaborative efforts on the part of employers and employees greatly contributed to the success of this project! Thank you to all who worked together to make this project a success!

****************************** TEMPORARY TOLLWAY ACCESS ROAD TO CLOSE Thank You to All Who Helped Make It A Success!!
In early 2006, the Conway Park Owners Association formed the Business Partners Transportation Committee (BPTC) to address concerns related to the anticipated roadway constructions on I-294 and IL Rt. 60. Among the many things considered and implemented by our joint efforts, we garnered financial support of businesses in Conway Park to construct a temporary road from North Field Drive onto the north-bound lane of the I-294 Tollway in July of 2007.
The Temporary Access Road opened in early January 2008, and has been used by an average of 1500 cars per day, exceeding the original estimate of 1100-1200 cars per day. This alleviated delays not only for the northbound employees in the park, but also everyone else that was exiting at Field Dr. and Field Ct. due to less vehicles on the road at those intersections. This was a very worthwhile project that benefited all employees in the park, the companies themselves, the Toll Authority, and IDOT and their respective contractors.
The Temporary Access Road met its intended need... it provided a valuable, safe alternative for exit during construction. However, pursuant to our agreements, the Tollway Authority has notified the City of Lake Forest that it is their intention to expand the Truck Parking Facility in the near future and notified the City that the Access Road will be closed as soon as the Route 60 and Bridge Projects are completed. They anticipate that this will be in June of this year; however, construction delays may prolong it somewhat
Thus far the Tollway Authority has not indicated any interest in retaining this roadway for any purpose, public or private, so unless their position changes public use of the Temporary Access Road will be discontinued in June or July and be removed sometime later this year. On behalf of the Conway Park Owners Association, and the Business Partners Transportation Committee, Thank you to all who participated in making this project a success. We couldn’t have done this without your support, involvement and resources, and we are quite proud of the results. *******************************
